I converted my Super A in 1992, and have not had a problem since. Gone are that bushel basket full of regulators and distributor caps, that might have some life left. I know you will say how could this affect the distributor cap? I don't know, but I was buying one per year before the change, haven't bought one since. Plain and simple the change over was a whole lot of trouble out the door for me.
Interesting....On my 12V 1966 140 I went to alternator in 2004 and electronic ignition in 2005. I too went from annual distrubutor cap change to 'I haven't bought one since.' I had attributed it to the electronic ignition, but maybe it was getting rid of the generator. In any case, I have the same experience with the distributor caps, which I have purchased only at NAPA for thirty-plus years.
