Ok guys I just got the 400 back together from some engine work and the charging system still is not working correctly. I charged and re-tested that battery today and it checks out ok. The alternator, resistor, IGN coil, points, condensor, plugs and wires are all new. Tractor starts and runs fine but the Amp gage just pegs out on the charging side and never moves. Do I just have it wired wrong or is there something else I should be looking at?
I have a battery cable to the big post on the starter solenoid. From there I have two wire, one to the back of the Amp gage and the other to the BAT terminal on the ignition switch. Small post on starter solenoid has wire going to SOL terminal on ignition switch. ACC terminal on ignition switch is open. D-R terminal has two wires; one going to the resistor and coil and the other to the #1 post on the alternator. #2 post on the alternator pig-tails to the BAT terminal of the alternator. BAT terminal of alternator has wire going to the other post on the Amp gage.
Does that sound right? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!!!
