Hi there... I just did the same thing Friday night. We had previously taken the engine and bolster from the tractor, and getting the center section off like you described was a challenge. What finally worked for us was getting successively larger wedges in between the two cases to pry them apart. Most likely they have been together for 67 years and are just stubborn. We used gasket scrapers, wonder bars, and different chisels. wedge them in tight, then apply pressure opposite the wedge...if the wedge is at the bottom of the case, push down on the top...if you put it on the top, lift up on the bottom. It was a very stubborn one, but it came off! Good luck!!!
