Stigmont: I went from 15.5x38 to 16.9x38 on my 656 and 560, did it mainly to give better rear end clearence. At the time I also went from chloride filled 15.5x 38 to no chloride in the 16.9x38. Yes it did make a huge difference. With 15.5 on the 656 I never gave a thought to hooking up to 5x16 semi-mount plow. After the change to 16.9, all I ever plowed with was 656.
I don't think you want chloride in there, 16.9 and 18.4 hold a lot of chloride. It will rob the 686 of too much power. I noticed this in my change from 15.5 to 16.9, tractors were much more lively and resopnsive, didn't leave near as many wheel tracks in soft ground. I noticed the same going from single, chloride filled, 20.8x38, to dual, air only, 20.8x38 on 1066. I takes hard ground to take advantage of all that added weight.
