The original high speed, load main jet, is calibrated for full load operation and the intention of the adjustment screw is to slightly decerease fuel flow for light loads. You should be able to kill engine off screwing it way in when running at full throttle. Some screws are actually too short to fully contact main jet seat. This can easily be observed if you have carb bowl off. Screwing all the way out will only increase fuel to the calilbrated size of the main jet, however, over the years of these tractors any modifications could have been made. I have seen them drilled out to about 1/16th inch and gas will go through like a house a fire. Another thing is that some of the increased power packages had a main jet in pkg with a different degree taper on the seat and the original adj screw did not fit it properly. You need to change the screw and seat together. Fire crater packages were that way.
