I hope someone can help me understand why something happened.
The shaft seal in the bottom cover for the trans brake on my 826 was leaking. Draining is more like it! Not knowing if it was good or not, and not wanting to have the tractor down, I bought a new brake pad. As it turned out, the old one was probably 50 percent worn, so I replaced it. Anyway, now that I have the tractor back together and the linkage readjusted, it's shifting much better than before.
In particular, I was having trouble occasionally going from a forward gear to reverse... it would kinda stick between gears and not move. I would shift back to a forward gear, go forward a foot or so and go back to reverse and it would be fine.
Now, that problem is completely gone and the shifting to high, low and reverse, as well as the four speed ranges is much, much better.
I'll take all the positive results I can. Would just like to understand this one better. My only thought was that the clutch/trans brake were out of adjustment but I don't understand how they could effect the forward/reverse problem I was having. Ideas?
