I would switch to the mag first, my reasoning, with the mag you do not need to have a working charging system for the tractor to run, where with the distributor, if you loose battery power, tractor will not run. I have put mags on all my tractors, and keep batteries charged until I get the gennies fixed and charging. I only charge batteries about once a year. do not use lights or anything, just start it and go.jim
