That was back during the production period of these tractors that they "upgraded" to the donuts. The donuts were the best they had until the oval filter you mention. I got tired of changing the donuts and bought an aftermarket filter upgrade. It contains a big oval filter and a spacer plate. I have a 504 diesel with a Koyker loader and a fresh 17 GPM pump along with the 4.5 GPM hitch pump. Even with fresh donuts (14 GPM flow when new), my pumps sounded like they were cavitating and they were. The Allied Precision kit ELIMINATED my hydraulic issues. I also bought a spare filter. After a month or so, my pumps were squaling again... Changed the filter and have not looked back. Think the oval filter caught more debris than the donuts and filled quickly. This filter has been on about 8 months and is now restricted yet.
