THink I finally got it running right after new rings and a head job. In the end it bit me in the butt by trying to not take the manifold off the head (FIL's advice who is right most of the time) I had a leak there and distributor trouble.
I never really checked the timing marks when I had it apart but in the end I found out the hard way its timed to the mark on the right side of the engine. Or lack of mark. On the left there is a sharp point sticking out and on the right a land where they could have put it. Did they switch timing marks some year during production or could I have a different crank pulley thus the wrong mark?
Timing jumps a few degrees at idle but really not worried about that now. Maybe some day I will get brave and spray weld the distributor shaft
Now for the real question.... The clutch is marginal. As in it has a long pressure point till it finally grabs. It starts to grab within about the first inch of letting it up and doesn't grab hard till about the last 1.5 inch of travel. Thinking I got a weak pressure plate. What do you all think?
