I would drill a tiny hole in the seal and screw in a small tapered screw. Then grab it with some vice grips and it should come out. You can also squirt some PB blaster around the outer edges to help the process along. I'm replacing mine on my MD also. I don't know what the difference between corn head grease and regular grease is, but will try to find some. How's the bearing at the end of the shaft? Mine was toast and will need replacement. BTW, the seal and bearing are readily available from NAPA, just provide them with the original part number.
