Go with the filter change first and see if it will get out of the field . What owen was thinking was that maybe the PTO input shaft and or the hub on the pressure plate went south , myself i do not think so at least not yet .as you said the PTO was working and IF that is working then the shaft that runs the MCV pump and the main hitch pump was still turning as the PTO has it's own pump but no filter to clog . So if the filter was pluged and the screen and bypass were pluged then yes you will have a no hitch and no steer and the T/A will kick in and out . as for your steering wheel leak Fix it it is not a tough job to do and on a nother day when it is not so late and i am not almost falling asleep i will out line the whole deal on just how it is done and the only Special toll you will need is a steering wheel puller and two LONG 1/4 inch fine thread bolts and a snap ring pliers and one socket . So let us know how all turns out .
