A couple of weeks ago, I went to a hydraulic shop that I rarely go to. Outside, the owner and his son were cutting up pallets. I had my IH parts book in hand and opened to the hydraulic cylinder page. The son and I assumed our respective sides of the counter.
I needed half a dozen O-rings. IH had kindly given the dimensions of each O-ring I needed and I had put a check mark on each item.
The kid scanned the page for about 10 seconds and said "You will have to leave the book and come back later. I can't do this right now".
I told him I was not coming back later because I was never coming back. As I left to get in my truck, I told the father/owner what had just happened. He got pissed and said if I didn't like the service I should buy the business. Damn, I wished I had had a snappy answer. Oh, well.
