Will add a little more, in case a tractor puller was playing games and put the M tag 50983 D? on the 8557 D throttle body to make it look like a original M carb. If you look in the throat of the 8557 with the venturi out you will see a ledge that opens the top of throat bigger for a bigger butterfly. If its a M throttle body there's no step up. Going by memory I think the 8557 has the number 10 on the butterfly. Remember for sure the M is 12. Venturi size is probably 30 or 32 if the 9 series one is still in it. Depending what bowl or other parts the carb has in it that may be part of your problem. M gasket and manifold probably overhangs the carb throat also, unless they were blended.
