Gene - This diagram should answer your wiring questions. The terminals on your solenoid may be labelled differently but they're not hard to figure out. Also the wire between the solenoid "I" terminal and the ballast resistor is optional - I've found Farmalls start/fun fine without it connected. Recommend you leave it out... Regarding the warning light/diode, if you wire the lamp as shown, you don't need the diode. I personally prefer the warning lamp over the diode. It performs same function as the alternator idiot light in most cars - comes on if the alternator quits, the drive belt breaks, etc. As other, less "gage watching" operators often run my tractors, I like having the alternator warning light on 'em. (Note: You can also substitute a 10 ohm, 2 watt or higher resistor in place of the warning light...) Hope this helps!

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
