I mentioned before how you are probably scratching your head over this one Terry. Any hair left? My WD9 is a 1946 model and you must push both levers down to start the engine on Petrol. I also mentioned there may have been a change in the linkage on later WD9 tractors. This is the case. At Serial No. 39715, sometime in 1949, both the compression lever and throttle (Diesel throttle) were installed with a two part linkage system. This may have been when the change of operation took place. My owners manual tells me, on page 8, under general driving instructions, to pull the levers down to starting position, I do, It does. This is not to say later WD9s don't operate in the reverse direction. If your 9 is easy to crank over in both modes, your linkages must be out of whack. Good luck, keep posting with your efforts, don't worry your hair will grow back.Regards, Redfan. PS they are still one of the best tractors IH made. Personal opinion.
