HMMM...this sounds a lot like my IH 404 tractor. It ran fine until I ended up replacing the sediment bowl, and has never been the same since. It makes sense that with only a gravity fed system an in-line filter would restrict the flow of gas. I've noticed that when my tractor sits parked, the cheapie plastic disposable filter is only 1/4 full of gas. My tractor runs for 3 or 4 minutes then dies. If I wait a couple of minutes and start it again it'll run for a couple of minutes then die. I've been through the carb 3 times, replaced everything in the ignition system, replaced the fuel line with rubber (used to be metal), cleaned and coated the fuel tank, and I'm losing my mind. Is it OK, assuming I'm using clean/fresh 89-91 octane non-ethanol fuel with sta-bil added to run without a filter? I'm just a bit scared of screwing up my tractor,it's my first one, and we rely on it heavily to move round bales to our cows etc.
