I recently came across a Hydro 86 with cab and looks like new for a $3500, I called on it figuring it was too good to be true, and of COURSE, trans problems. The guys says, when you move the lever to fwd, it doesnt move, bring it back to neutral and then back to fwd, it will take off. the tractor has all kinds of power in low range, but will not stall the engine in high range. He installed a new charge pump. and new oil. He also had someone check the pressures and he was told they were alright, but i dont know how much knowledge this person that checked the pressures had. Any chance this could be a simple fix, by simple i mean anything that does not reqire rebuilding the main pump and drive motor. I am planning on going to see this machine this weekend. Anything I should check to eliminate some problems. He said that he was told that the trans was rebuilt about 10 years ago. 7000hrs on the machine I forgot to mention that the tractor sat for over 6 years and was not used. I believe that the trans worked fine before it was parked. This tractor also has 2 new rear tires that are included in with the tractor, so even i can get it for $3000 the tires alone are worth 1500 so really its a 1500 dollar tractor. I am a mechanic by trade and have some knowledge on Hyd Trans any input would be apricated!
