Starting a 706 diesel with 282 is not for the impatient man who cannot follow a specific procedure. You need to hold the glow plugs for a min of 30 seconds, and continue holding them when you start it. Spraying fuel on a glow plug cools them off real fast so just keep them on after it starts for a few seconds depending on temp etc until it is running clear. May be able to let go almost immediately or may have to stay on them a while. Another trick, don't let go of them and then get back on them after it has run long enough for normal voltage of system to build as the glow plugs DO NOT take well to high voltage. I just shut them off and start over, easier on engine and glow plugs. Can't change the design of any particlar engine and system it operates under but you can accomadate it. Oh, lot of blow by, it probably will start hard if it is exessive.

What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?").
