My son finished restoring (repainting) his grandfathers H complete with new stickers and the whole bit. It looks very nice. We reinstalled the magneto and timed it properly. We then pull the carb apart and fixed the needle valve so that we could get gas to the engine. We then started it and ran reasonably well. It did not seem to be quite as smooth as I thought it should be. This engine had been stuck when we got it, after getting it loose we measured 90, 60, 30 and 90 PSI from #1 to #4. So we had it running on Friday night and then on Saturday and Sunday. Yesterday (Monday) as my Son started it up, it fired quickly and came to life for about 5 seconds and then died like it ran out of gas. He tried to crank it over again and it would not budge. We tried to crank it over using the fan (switch was off) like we did when setting the timing, and it still would not budge. Like the engine was froze solid. Towed it up to the garage and started to pull parts off. 1) Pulled the starter-starter would spin by itself, but engine still stuck. 2) Pulled magneto- magneto free- engine still stuck 3) Pulled valve cover- all valves still in spring clips and would still depress using a screw driver. 4) Pulled the pan and everything was still in one pieces 5) There was no knocking noise prior to the engine not truning anymore 6) Pulled rod caps on #1 and #4 -Could now move crank via fan about 1 inch back and forth 7) Pulled the head- All the valves looked nearly new and seated properly 8)Used Hammer and piece of wood to tap out #1 and #4 pistons - Did not want to move up very well 9) Tried to tap them down from the top and got some movement. 10) Then grabbed the fan blades and rotate the engine over with ease pushing #1 and #4 to top(This was a surprise) 11) pulled all four pistons out and they looked absoulutely fine. Rings were all intact and loose. Not much wear on pistons. Sleeve looked fine 12) All of the journals on crank look fine. The bearings show very little wear if any. 13) Had tractor out of gear while trying to turn it over. Even depressed clutch to see if that made a difference. 14) I did not pull the timing cover on the front of the engine to see if anything was damaged there. 15)I do not have a micrometer to check the bearings or the piston slop, but there were no ridges at the top or bottom of the sleeves and the pistons were tight in the bore. What could have kept the engine from turning over?

The Cletrac General GG and the BF Avery A - A Bit of History - by Mike Ballash. This article is a summary of what I have gathered up from various sources on the Gletrac General GG and the B. F. Avery model A tractors. I am quite sure that most of it is accurate. The General GG was made by the Cleveland Tractor Company (Cletrac) of Cleveland, Ohio. Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac.
