My son's friend bought his grandpa's super nice super M that's about as nice and origional as a tractor that age can be. It wasn't charging so he called me to look at it. I was in a hurry so the first thing I did was ground the field and it did charge, so I told him the regulator was bad and I left. Today he replaced the reg and still no charge. I looked at it this eve and I first checked to see if it was wired wrong, but that was OK. Then I grounded the field and it charged. Then I clipped a jumper wire to the regulator ground strap and grounded the jumper to what I think was a clean ground. There was still no charge and I was so stinking tired I couldn't think straight, so I gave it up till morning.
The old regulator looked like it might the origional from the factory so what I'm asking you Farmall guys is do I have a mis-matched genny-regulator? Was there a change in replacement parts sometime through the years? He probably does have the right reg and I simply haven't found the problem yet, but just out of a whim I thought I'd ask. Jim
Oh yeah, he did put an 8 volt battery in it and it's hooked up positive ground.

The General GG was made by the Cleveland Tractor Company (Cletrac) of Cleveland, Ohio. Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac.
