No, you don't have to split the tractor, however, that is only a get by type of repair as if that is the problem you really need to replace or rebuild the clutch which does require a split. Have done it a few times though , through the top cover, trick is to get them all even. Lots of things are possible but not necessarilly the correct way of doing repairs.
