My thanks to everyone who replied yesterday to my questions on electrical color codes and wiring up a gas gauge. Looks like I will be continuing to use a stick to see how much gas is left in the tank! I just could not get the gauge to work while in the tractor. Tractor has negative ground and the gauge is for the original positive ground setup. I tried reversing the wires but that didn't do it. However if I took the gauge out of the tractor and hooked it up to a separate 6 volt battery, I could get the needle to move to Full. All I can figure is that the gauge needs a positive ground system. Not sure why polarity is important to a gas gauge since there is just a coil of wire that heats up inside the gauge to warp a bi-metallic strip that pulls the needle from empty to full. Oh well, on to other things. Pete
