Adam, first thing I would do is go back to the person you bought it from. Oil running out as fast as you put it in could be something simple or something really bad. Hard to tell without looking at it. If the hydraulic pump body is cracked, it is junk. If a plug is missing, then it is a simple fix. Also, are you sure that you are putting oil in the right place?
If he stated that everything was working, obviously the hydraulics are not working. If the person you bought it from is worth his salt, then he should work with you to resolve the issue. One would be that he refunds part of your money. Another might be he "loan" you back the mower until you can repair the hyraulics.
Either way, he should make it right. Best case, the hydraulics should be made right on his dime.........
