If you are running factory 6volt set up with a magneto, the most likely culprit is the regulator is defective or wired wrong. Does the ammeter show a discharge when the tractor is shut off?
Also, don't rule out defective battery. I racked my brain for 2 weeks over a bad Napa battery on my Super M. Take the battery out of the tractor and make sure it holds a charge by itself. While disconnecting the battery, take off the negative terminal 1st and try and see if there is a small spark while you remove the terminal, if so, then you have a short in the tractor somewhere.
