Red, Do what John suggested.. The axles need to be removed because the piece that wraps around the bull gear, and the length of the axle will not allow you to remove the bull gear with the axle intact.. I would also suggest that you replace all the bearings in the bull pinion housing.. when we rebuilt the MV, I looked to see if the bull gear could be removed with the axles intact, and I had the same problem as with the H.. Going thru the pto slot only allows you to remove the axle without taking the deck off, but I think that the extra time and effort taking the deck off is well worth it in the end.. Don't forget to replace the O-rings (#4222D) on the bull pinion housing..
