If you have spark coming from the coil, your distributor timing must be off. Find the top dead center on the compression stroke on number one cylinder. You do this by removing the spark plug, put your big thumb over the hole, crank the engine over slowly, and feel for the compression stroke (air being forced out). Then carefully line the TDC notch on the front pulley with the timing pin. Take your distributor cap off and make sure the rotor is lined up with the internal post for number one cylinder. If it is not, try to get it there by loosening the distributor mounting bolts and rotate the distributor. If you need more movement to accomplish this, you will have to pull the distributor out and move the drive gear one or two cogs as necessary. This should get you close enough to at least get it started. Also make sure the advance mechanism in the distributor body moves freely and is not hung up.

Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
