Doug, my Father and I changed the PTO shaft on our 1954 Super H like this: First we unbolted the PTO shaft and pulled it out. The sleeve or tube that throws the PTO in and out of gear came out with the PTO shaft. When it was time to put the new shaft in, my father got an old broom handle and slid the tube over it. With the broom handle, he slid the tube in place inside the rear end. With the tube in place, all I had to do was just slid the new PTO shaft in place. For us it was impossible to insert the PTO shaft properly without the tube being in place to guide the PTO shaft in place. The "broom handle" method worked for our Super H. I'm not sure it will work on the regular H. Also, we only unbolted the PTO shaft. Nothing else was removed.
