I would not time it to 22 degrees , 12 or 14 sounds correct on those engines. On checking valve to piston clearance, one has to remember that the minimum clearance between valve and piston does not occur at exactly tdc of piston due to over lap of cam. I have no idea if you did cam shaft or timing gear work so will assume cam shaft timing has not been changed. Valve clearance was changed to .012 on both valves on all Neuss German built engines.
