OK this is good--There is 2 common types of12v coils. Internal and external resistors. Problem is that many are just marked or sold as 12v coils. the external resistor type are 6v coils requireing an external resistor but are marked 12v. These coils usually take 10 to 50 operation hrs to break down when used without a resistor. This problem can be solved by 1 adding the resistor or 2 using a true (internal resistor) coil. After many conversions I have come to rely on one particular coil. The Bosch blue coil sold as a performance coil for the 1967 and later VW beetle. Now to compound your problem the condencer in the dstributer can give you the exact symptoms as a failing coil. Sure hope this helps you out. What type of cars did you take the used coils from?
