Id call it POSITIVE GROUND originally (and thats how Id configure her for uniformitys sake and electrical parts such as a Voltage Regulator if it has one that is)
To be on the safe side if you install a new battery Id POLARIZE THE GENNY PRIOR TO START UP. If battery polarity is reversed the ammeter leads need swapped or she reads bass ackwards and if its a coil ignition instead of a mag the coil leads also need swapped.
