See how the old battery is connected as guys sometimes reverse polarity through the years either accidentally (the more common cause) or on purpose. Id call it POSITIVE GROUND originally (and thats how Id configure her for uniformitys sake and electrical parts such as a Voltage Regulator if it has one that is)
To be on the safe side if you install a new battery Id POLARIZE THE GENNY PRIOR TO START UP. If battery polarity is reversed the ammeter leads need swapped or she reads bass ackwards and if its a coil ignition instead of a mag the coil leads also need swapped.
