If I remember right 7 years ago I changed the water pump on my SH without removing the radiator. I probably did that with the fan off. One other thing. I replaced it because I could not stop the drip with new packing in various amounts. In other words I had it off more than twice. The new Asian pump leaked also. Replaced the IH seals with NAPA graphite coated string. Still leaked. Gave up and kept the nut tight for a while, the leak eventually stopped. It might have stopped on the original, also, as I had overhauled it as part of my "restoration". Did not leak before I took it off the first time. I guess it's "leave well enough alone", for me anyway.
