First of all, I go on record stating that if a system works correctly, it dosen;t matter what method is used.
Using alternators begin when farmers discovered that rebuilt generators were upwards of $125. These farmers had to get back into the field quick, the internet was not around to research. so they went with what they knew.
alternators are far superior to generators any day! the only reason you are getting away with that, is because a tractor has low power requirements.
I do not like the "non original" look to them however. it would be really neat, if someone would invent a "kit" so that you could gut the original generator, install new parts and convert it to an alternator.
This would solve mounting problems and look original. Andy
