naw.. maybee 20-30ys ago it would have to be big.. not now though. you can do charge pumps on 'chip' now..
I have an older catalog from a company called maxim. they list some charge pump chips in their catalog. i've had that catalog since? early 90's???
besides.. even using discreet components like tip packaged mossfets.. you can build 90-100w inverters on a pc board about the size of 2 nickles laying side by side, and make the components a half inch tall. .. say 2" x 1" rectangle 1/2" tall.. 12v in.. 120v out high current consumption, low efficiency.. etc.
i've seen some hobby projects style solid state cutouts with 'non specified' field control.. but alass.. never seen a schematic..
