If you have a brake that has been frozen and not working, you more than likely have a brake band connection pin frozen into the transmission casting. Now the fun begins. Once you have removed the return spring, yoke and the bolts, you will have to remove the brake band lever arm. The arms are different in shape on each side so don't get them mixed up (take a picture!). Then you will have to use penetrating oil and slowly pull the cover off of the brake band lever. Then to remove the frozen brake band lever from the casting, use elbow grease and penetrating oil. Stick on a big pipe wrench and rotate the lever back and forth until it can be removed from the casting. It sits in there about an inch. Once I get a rusty stubborn lever out, I gently smooth it down on a grinding stone and make sure it it loose in the casting hole before reinstalling. Another problem can be that the pins that hold the brake band are frozen in place on the lever. Stick the lever in a vice, use penetrating oil and start pounding out the pins. They will free eventually. If the brake cover came off easily and you find 90 weight coating everything, pull the brake drum and replace the bull cage seals. The original assembly is one piece with two seals. The new seals are thin, so stick two in per side. I'll stop here.
