Hello IH people. I am sort of a dyed in the wool White Cockshutt person. However, do to a trade I now have a 460 IH diesel utility Serial number M 1480 SY with the rework triangle after the serial number. I am not sure about the M in front of the S-N as it not very clear at all. It has some issues. I was told by the previous owner that he did some work to the engine as it was left outside where water got in the exhaust. He got the head done over and changed the bottom bearings. He went to move it aroung and could not get it into gear. He thought something was wrong with the TA. Now it is at my place, i crawled underneath and took off the inspection plate under the clutch. The release bearing does not even contac the clutch fingers at all with the clutch pedal down. The fingers are so far forward the release bearing would hit the LPTO spline coupling before traviling to far even if the release bearing was set to be farther forward. My son an dI pulled it to move it yesterday. I tried it in 4th gear, but the wheels justed dragged. In enytral it pulls fine. So tha tells me the cluth is engaged, all else being ok. No the questions start. Is it possible that teh cluch disk could be in backwards? Is so, would it engage like it has? I would think it would not engage at all then as the friction material would be held away from the flywheel and the presure plate. Anyone of you good IH people ever seen anything like this? My next move is to set the fingers through the inspection hole to about 1/16" from the releas bearing and see if that releases it. Nothing to loose I guess. BTW it is just smart how IH linked the cluth and TA so when you shift gears, you were always in underdrive. Oliver could have learned from that I think.

Today's Featured Article - Talk of the Town: Winterizing Engines - To Drain or Not to Drain? - by Russ Berry. What is this strange attraction I have to equipment and machinery? How did I get this way? I came from the suburbs and own a small horse farm in rural Loudoun County, Virginia. You can call me a "weekend farmer." The local farmers do. Does it bother me? No. I am just happy to have their friendship. At least the word "farmer" is in my title. But what is the attraction? How can I explain the sensation and exhilaration I feel when I turn the key and hear the engine come to life (most
