Thank you for the information. Is it possible to open up the winch when it is still on the machine? I've been using the winch to yard logs and to pull over trees. It has been working great and it does sound like a problem with a fork . I've heard this type of noise before when working with transmissions. It looks like the winch splits annd the back of the winch comes off. There is a plate on the winch which covers the input shaft and other gers are visible. Gears in this area look ok. Not possible to see the engagement fork in this area. Do you know of any sites on the internet where an exploded view of inside the winch could be viewed?

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
