You want to fill to to about 1/2" below the fill plug. It takes about 3 quarts of hydraulic fluid. There is not a vent in this system so if you fill it clear to the fill plug and then use it long enough to heat the fluid up it will build pressure in the unit and blow out one of the pressure plugs in the side of the unit. I did this about 5 years ago while on a tractor ride. We had been out for about an hour when it blew the plug on the right side of the unit. Had to get towed back to town. At least it was a WD-45 and not a green one.
