Red's advice is spot on, as usual. After you get the problem isolated to the dist./mag, check to see if the points are opening and closing. If they are, check the gap. After setting the gap, remove the condenser and see if it will start. If it does, replace the condenser, it's shorted. If not, check the coil for continuity in both windings. The primary, or low voltage, side shoiuld be nearly a dead short. Very low resistance like 1/2 - 2 Ohms. The secondary side should be around 10 - 100 Ohms or so. If either side of the coil shows a high resistance, the coil is bad.
