cub elect. problems

I have a 1950 Cub 12volt conversion. I changed the elect. wireing this morning fired her up and she ran great. I noticed that the amp guage was running for the first time since I had her, it was reading 10. then I noticed a glow behind the console. The dimmer coil was glowing red hot. I turned her off then turned the light switch off, then started her and 0 on the amp guage but no glowing dimmer coil. Can someone tell me what I need to do? I am new at this and need your help.
