My McCormick-Deering (1947) presently sports a 12V battery turning a 6V starter. The 6V generator, with an as new 6V Voltage Regulator sitting on top of it, puts out, but nothing's hooked up to it. The 12V coil is hooked up to the battery via a flip-switch. The battery is of course not being charged, and just used to crank the starter plus feed the coil. I read a lot about conversion, and a rebuilt ready-to-go Delco 10SI alternator can be had within a day for US$90, if I install it myself, using an appropriate bracket. A friend of mine says "Naaah, jest go back to a 6V battery, and a 6V coil, and you's in business." I really would appreciate some pro and con comments from you experts in the Forum. Thank you in advance.
