The first models of the styled Farmalls dating back to 1939 had a jute padded seat with a dark gray almost black duck cloth (coarse canvas weave) covering. Then in late 1949 the covering changed to the silver color and soon after that the seat gained a layer of foam rubber that really softened them up quite a bit. I never saw or heard of a no-holed stamped steel seat that came on a new tractor that wasn't covered...and I lived through that era...but it's possible I 'spose. The vinyl red and white seats were never a factory issue nor was any other vinyl covering. Those seats may look attractive, but they aren't the best because they don't breathe and on a hot day your butt will sweat pretty bad.
