Hi Guys,
The advice you guys gave me regarding my gear grinding problem was great. I got it all back together yesterday afternoon and let it sit over night so the gasket material would harden. No leaks today, so I took it for a little spin. And guess what? Those gears went together like syncromesh! Just as slick as could be. I had drained all the oil out of the transmission and the rear end. The rear end was just dirty old stuff, but fairly thin for a rear end. The transmission was just as bad and it did show some water as the oil at the bottom was kind of milky. I cleaned it up and refilled with 85-140 and Lucas. I put 5 quarts of 85-140 and a quart of Lucas in the transmission case. In the rear end I put 2 pints of 85-140 and a pint of Lucas on each side.
It's running good and I hope to be in the Paquette Historical Tractor Museum parade in The Villages, FL this Friday.
