Looks like you got there just in time. I wouldn't be too suprised to find that bore in the block to be on the loose side too. Probably either fall right out, or fight you all the way! Depends how much soot has been forced through the crack, I suppose.
The last few of these I have overhauled, I have used a sleeve retaining compound on, similar to loctite, and primer, that is made for this. Heat tolerant, and transfers heat also. One has logged over 3000 hours no problems so far. Be sure to get sleeve standout set evenly. I like to keep it to the low side of the spec. This can be tricky without the special tool.
