Mike, obviously you've got oil getting into the combustion chambers. It can only get there one of two ways. Either past the valve guides in the head or by the piston rings. If you can, perform a compression check on the engine, first just as things are, then repeat the procedure after injecting a tablespoon of oil in each cylinder. If compression pressure is greater by a significant amount (say 10 lbs. or more) chances are that your rings are bad. Unfortunately that doesn't mean that your valve guides are good. If it were me, I'd take the head off and have it redone, if the problem persisted or got worse I would then replace sleeves, rings and pistons.
