I don't think there is any way to use a gear puller. I jacked mine up about 6" and, with nut loosened but still on, beat on the top of the spindle, with a piece of bar stock between the hammer and nut, till the whole assembly, tires,wheels, shaft and all, dropped out from under the gear. This also make it super easy to unbolt the wheel assembly from the shaft if your going to replace the bolster bushings.
