Hey guys, and Happy Mother's Day to everyone out there (gotta keep em happy so they'll allow us to bring in more tractors, haha).
I just bought an IH 240 Utility this morning that has been sitting in a fence row for a few years. We put some fresh gas in it and jumped it off, and it fired right up!! You couldn't ask for a better running tractor. You can actually count the RPM's when at idle because it will idle so low and smooth!!!
ANYWAYS.....we have only owned Farmall Cubs, Super A's through 140's before and have never had anything like this. At first glance the engine in the 240-U resembles the ones in the 100-140 tractors. The hydraulics look a little different though. This one is gonna need a throw-out bearing because you can hear and feel the slop when depressing and letting out on the clutch. Also, its prolly gonna need the hydraulics cleaned out good and checked for leaks; as it raises and lowers by body weight (200#), but "burps" a little like it could be low on fluid. Its gonna need a new set of gauges, an original seat, new steering wheel and possibly 2 original lights as you all can see from the pictures.
Is there anything different about this tractor from the ones we have that I should know about or be aware of?? I noticed the 3 point hitch on it is a little different than the common one found on other tractors. Its also apparently got weights on the front and some sort of weights on the rear. We are gonna be getting a shop manual on it, but I really would rather ask you guys....PLUS yall can tell me stuff about it that it might not include...especially since we don't even need to mess with the motor. I'd also like to know where I can get some good used parts for it (the ones I mentioned before) at a good price. I might be up for some trades as well since I have around 30 other Farmall tractors and TONS of parts.
