Mike it can cost way more than that. 2-3K just to prep it and paint can be low. I know a guy that has an $800 paint job on a garden tractor and he did the prep. Then start adding in tires if needed plus any repairs. Good restro can real easy breat 5k and could hit 10K if it needs the engine rebuilt and more.
I also know another guy who paid to have an H restored. Don't know what he spent but it's the only tractor he kept when he retired from farming. It's also a tractor he drove home and a 12 year old new from the dealership in 1948. He just didn't have a place to work on it.
So I see nothing wrong with having it done if that is what the owner wants. Me? I'd do it myself.
