Thanks, p! That shaft only moves when the cap is off. The cap holds it firmly in place. However, when it is held down, it pushes the rear of it back toward the differential, and that misaligns the rear inner and outer bearing parts. I'm guessing that because it is forced back, it is rubbing against the differential, and hence the noise. But do I have something in wrong? Or is it the wrong shaft? OR WHAT? Perplexing. I will be playing with it this weekend. And I will try to run it slowly in first as you say. I may get to actually see the problem. If you get out, take a look at your Cub. If not, that's fine too. Just git rid of the bug. I'll let you know what I find.
