That passage goes to a cam journal. As the cam turns, a pulse of oil goes to the upper end. The oil drains slow because it is not lined up at this time. If it were, it would drain faster, but not just flow, as the passage in the cam still has places to go. There are no cam bearings in it, and IH never put them in this series. I have never seen a worn out cam journal or block in that series engine. Jim
