The 'hammering' description is what scares me. That doesn't sound good. Every A or B I've ever been on does whine from the final drives, but I wouldn't call it a hammering sound. It's there in every gear just louder and different pitch at higher speeds. Howard's advice to ride other similar tractors is good. That way you can average the sounds to expect. Stan(VA) not a 'guru', just someone that likes Farmalls.
